James A. Geng, 83, of Largo, Fla., formerly West Burlington, died May 6, 2023, at Accent Care IHC Oak Manor in Largo, Fla.

Born Aug. 15, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Reuben Francis and Margaret Winters Geng. On Nov. 29, 1969, he married Sarah C. Kirkpatrick in Lomax, Ill.

He graduated in 1957 from Burlington High School and joined the U.S. National Guard Reserves.

James worked 22 years at J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Cribbage and Bridge. He loved riding his motorcycle up until the start of this year.

Survivors include wife of 53 years, Sarah C. Geng of Largo, Fla.; daughter, Kathy (Mark) Messer of New London, two sons, Mark Kirkpatrick of Burlington and John (Amy) Geng of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Barry, sister-in-law Sue, and a daughter-in-law, Teresa.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Geng will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the UAW #807 Union Hall at 9313 Koestner St. in Burlington following the burial.
