MaryAnn Porter, 84, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at the Arbor Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Pleasant.

MaryAnn was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of  Edwin and Ethel Huppenbauer Astfalk. On May 26, 1962, she married Charles Gordon Porter.

MaryAnn loved all dogs and has had 13 rescue dogs throughout her life. Starting with her first dog, a Cocker Spaniel named Penny when she was still a young girl. Penny was followed by many other rescue dogs and she always had that magic touch of love and gentleness with dogs of all kinds.

She loved to travel with Gorden, and they took trips whenever they could. They loved traveling in their camper and always took their furry friends with them.  She loved sports and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes.  She enjoyed watching westerns and had a soft spot for John Wayne.  Moreover, she loved her family and friends and would spend as much time with them as she possibly could.  MaryAnn's kindness and compassion will be missed, but her memory lives on through all who love her.

MaryAnn's family include her brother William (late wife Sondra) Astfalk of West Burlington; nieces, Christina (Chad) Hardy, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Suzanne Todd of West Burlington; great nieces and nephew, Taylor Hardy, Maggie Hardy who is currently serving in the Honor Guard of the United States Marine Corps, Ethan Todd, Emma Todd and Rylie Todd.  Brother in law, Dean (Majorie) Porter of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Sister in law, Elaine (late husband, Paul) of Washington, DC. special cousin, Mary Lee Stevenson of Cedar Rapids, along with many other cousins survive.

Sadly, MaryAnn is preceded in death by her husband Charles Gordon; and parents, Edwin and Ethel.
