Richard “Dick” Lee Maxwell, 83, of West Burlington, Iowa, passed away in his home on Saturday, March 14, 2026. 

Born on July 11, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, he was the son of Cloyce Vinton Maxwell and Nina Marie (Oge) Maxwell. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1960. 

On November 5, 1961, in Stockport, Iowa, he married Shirley Westercamp. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2014.

He served in the Air Force as an Airman A2C from 1960 to 1964, and continued to take annual fishing trips on the Snake River with his Air Force brothers.

Dick worked at CASE as a supervisor for 30 years, until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, he worked at Five Flags in the Warehouse for 15 years. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and held several offices. He also served on the Board of Directors for Flint Hills Golf Course.

He loved golfing, woodworking, church activities, and spending time with family. He especially loved being a Hospice Volunteer for 5 years.

He is survived by his children: Yvonne (Kraig) Zlomke of West Burlington and Steven (Wendy) Maxwell of Burlington; five grandchildren: Rich, Bobby, Stephanie, Dannielle, and Thadeous; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister:  Karen Ash of Birmingham, IA, his sisters-in- law’s and brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. 

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, and two brothers: Bill and Gene Maxwell, and one sister: Judy Moyer. 

The funeral service for Dick will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Peace Lutheran Church in rural West Burlington. Pastor James Zuehls will officiate.  The Burlington Honor Guard will hold military rites. Cremation will follow the funeral services. Burial will be held in Prairie Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call at Lunning Chapel after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. 

A memorial has been established in his memory for the Peace Lutheran Church and the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
