James L. Farris, 58, of Burlington, died Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Oct. 9, 1965, in Burlington, he was the son of Billie Gene Farris and Karen Boughton.
He graduated from Burlington High School and continued his education at Southeastern Community College.
Out of high school, James worked for God Father's Pizza. Since he enjoyed being around people, he started working as a bartender at many establishments over the years. He also worked for a catering company in Colorado.
He enjoyed the outdoors and would go hunting and fishing with his dad. James also liked to oil paint and wrote books. James was a passionate advocate and volunteer for the AIDS Project.
Survivors include his mother, Karen Boulton of Burlington; step-father, Donald Boulton Jr. of Lomax, Ill.; sister, Laura (Brain) Holt of New London; half sister, Juanita "Tina" (Steve) Birda of Oxford; and grandmother, Mary Waddell of West Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Timothy Farris and many extended family member.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
