Robert Michael Poole, "My Friends Call Me Bob," died Jan. 5, 2026 at 10:34 a.m. at SEIRMC.
He was born November 1, 1965, in Burlington, Iowa, to John W. and Dina (Iversen) Poole. Bob graduated from BHS in 1984 and attended local SCC, where he played his beloved sport, baseball. Bob worked a variety of jobs, laying tile for Rheinschmidt's (the fancy buffalo floor in Wyoming and the gift shop floor at SEIRMC). He also delivered OEM parts & units for Appalachian (ap uh latch un - get it right!) Machine, Inc., while living in Virginia. Upon returning to Burlington, Bob worked for Fye Excavating in Sperry.
Bob had a very diligent and conscientious work ethic instilled in him by his parents. Bob will be remembered for his hatred (fear) of clowns, birds, scary dolls, all green food except for the occasional pea and chicken bacon ranch pizza (wha kina peezah is zis?). And for his lifelong love of baseball (Go Cubs) Alabama College Football (ROLL TIDE), bacon, hot dogs, a fresh bag of chips, a perfectly cooked ribeye, Michael Jordan, Elvis Dale Earnhardt Jr, The Blue Ridge Mountains, getting his palm tickled and a properly cooked grilled cheese (with the "right kind of cheese and butter all the way to the edge). Bob had a fantastic sense of humor and was recently referred to as "A man of the most random sayings".
He is survived by his mother, Dina Poole, his wife Chris Poole and his beloved sons Jared, Jordan and Davis Poole, his siblings Lisa Schuel (Terry) of Michigan, John (Robin) Poole of Sperry, Denise (Brad) Fleming of Burlington, his 5 grandchildren, and many many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces & great nephews. Bob was blessed with many wonderful friends, the "Ol Man Breakfast Club", the March Madness bunch, and the fabulous Fye guys.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Poole; grandparents Sivert & Lucille Iversen, Margaret "Granny" Poole of Southwest Virginia and his beloved dog Chevy. He was also preceded in death by his honorary "Moms", Elaine Carlson & Janette House.
