Curtis Lamont Marsh, 53, of Oakland, Calif., died Saturday, March 4, 2023, at his home in California.

Born Aug. 13, 1969, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles E. Marsh and Jacquelyn Lee Kersh.

He graduated in 1987 from Burlington High School then attended Bill Hill's Beauty School, graduating in 1990. He also attended Evercrest College in Oakland where he received his medical assistant certification.
Curtis was a cosmetologist and worked for various beauty shops in the Oakland and Bay areas. He also worked part-time at Whole Foods.

Curtis was a member of Olivet Oakland Church. He loved to sing and sang in the church choir. He loved to perform in drag shows and had a larger-than-life personality. His friends thought of Curtis as a brother and their kids called him "uncle".  One of his nephews fondly called him "uncle tough guy".

He was a natural team leader, loved to party, and enjoyed cooking. He was a talented stylist and loved to cut and style hair. He would have appointments lined up whenever he returned to Burlington because everyone wanted him to do their hair.

He liked going to Casa Fiesta in Burlington with friends whenever he was in town. He loved Sterzings and would buy many bags to be shipped to his home in California. He adored his family, especially his mother. He referred to her as "the" mother because she was everything to him.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Jacquelyn Lee (Jerry) Williams of Burlington; brother, Jerrius Williams of Burlington; two sisters, Brandi Johnson of Des Moines and Summer Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; cousin, J'Cobi Ashby of Burlington, who was more like a sister; three half-brothers, Charles Buriel, Charles Winston and Antonio Brown all of Michigan; two half-sisters, Lavonda Brown and Isaiah Marsh both of Michigan; several step-brothers and sisters; grandmother, Rosetta Marsh; his aunts and uncle and cousins; and a host of friends.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be from 12 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church. 

The funeral service for Mr. Marsh will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcus Timmons officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.  A time of food and fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the burial.
