Mrs. Roberta “Bobbie” Peterson, 92, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born February 28, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George Arlington and Gertrude (Scott) Elliott, Sr.
Bobbie graduated from New London High School in 1947. In 1951 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin at OshKosh with a degree in elementary education.
She married Dr. John R. Peterson on August 24, 1952, at her family home in New London. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2016.
While Bobbie and John lived in West Branch, she worked at the dental school in Iowa City. When they moved to Georgia, she worked in the office of Ordinance Research in Durham, NC. She also kept the books for Dr. John Peterson’s oral surgery practice in Burlington.
Bobbie was a member of the Union Church of LaHarpe, IL. She was a member of Chapter HU of P.E.O., Norman Circle of Kings Daughters, and the Burlington Golf Club. She was also a Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included water coloring, cross-country skiing, and fly fishing. She was an avid reader and a member of the Fine Arts League and a board member of the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her daughters, Maia (Addison) Ingle of Charleston, SC, and Nena (Mark) Flatt of Fishers, Ind.; granddaughter, Elise (Sam) Phillips of San Diego, Calif.; grandson, Arie (Rachel) Flatt of Fishers, Ind.; great-granddaughter, Kaia; nieces and nephews, Scarlett Lunning, Marianne (Tom) Darnall, Julie (Jerry) Anderson, Laurie (David) Lind, Kate (Randy) McKasson, Elliott “Rusty” (Robin) Lunning, Maria (Reverend Michael Kuhn) Elliott, Gayla Elliott, Nancy (Shamil Salah) Elliott, John (Jill) Peterson; several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, George A. Elliott Jr. and W. Scott Elliott; one sister, Genevieve Lunning; and two sisters-in-law.
The funeral service for Mrs. Peterson will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Bruce Goettche officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Union Church, Hope Haven, and the Salvation Army.
