Florence Katherine Bolander, 79, of Burlington, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, at Addington Place in Burlington.

Born Dec. 15, 1943, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ray and Vennessa Kimbrough Penrod. On July 21, 1962, she married Paul Melvin Bolander at the Spring Grove Methodist Church in Des Moines County. 

She graduated from Burlington High School.  

Florence was a homemaker and worked part time at Hy Vee for over 20 years.

Florence liked to play BINGO, go shopping, and listen to George Strait. She traveled all over the world with her husband, including one especially memorable seven country tour. She always said he'd take her wherever she wanted to go. Florence was a great cook and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Her family was everything to her. 

Survivors include her husband, Paul of Burlington; daughters, Deb Smutzer, Julie (Henry) Harris, and Tina (Chris) Lamb all of Burlington; sons, Tim (Paula) Bolander of Burlington and Bradley (Mandy) Bolander of Oswego, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Stafford and Barb (Gary) Glendenning both of Burlington; brothers, Floyd (Patty) Penrod and Dick Penrod both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola (Denny) Patton and Georgianna (Jim) Vantiger; one son-in-law, Greg Smutzer; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Stafford and Harry Bolander. 

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. 

The funeral service for Mrs. Bolander will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
