Rick Lee Thompson, 67, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died May 25, 2022, at his residence. 

Born November 23, 1954, in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Cloud H. “Jupe” and Joanne Florang Thompson. 

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration on May 10, 2014, from Baker University, Overland Park, Kansas. He married Kathleen Malloy on June 5, 1976, in Burlington, Iowa. 

Rick was the Vice President of Sales for the Burlington Basket Company from 1976-2000. From 2000-2012 He was the CEO of the company. 

He was a member of the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working out with weights. But most of all, he loved talking and laughing with family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three children, Erin (Jud) Fawcett of Burlington, Iowa, Sarah (Shelby) Temps of Marysville, Kansas, and Christopher (Natasha) Thompson of Tucson, Arizona; six grandsons Ross Fawcett, Noah Thompson, Liam Fawcett, Owen Fawcett, Sean Thompson, and Levi Temps and two brothers, David Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jason Thompson of Marshall, Wisconsin. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Steven Thompson. 

The memorial funeral service for Rick will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27th at First Congregational Church. Inurnment will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 26th at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends. 

Rick absolutely LOVED animals, so in lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
