Phillip Harold Schwartz, 89, of Burlington, died at 8:04 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born March 27, 1932, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl Phillip and Myrtle Vera Atkinson Schwartz. On July 29, 1956, he married Dottie Lea Johnson in Salina, Kansas. She died October 11, 1985.

He was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School.

Phil was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War as an Airman First Class. He received both a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal during his service.

He worked for Scheaffer Pen Company as a tool and die maker, and then as a Manufacturing Engineer for J.I. Case Company for twenty years.

Phil was a familiar face at Country Friends, with his dear friend Judy. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, antiques, flower gardening, and spending time at the Auction Barn and at his cabin on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include three daughters, Debora Lea (David) Dixon of Burlington, Diana Lynn (Brett) Mayhugh of Burlington, and Donna Louise (Eric) Renteria of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Dottie, he was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pearl Evelyn Butherus.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N. 4th St. in Burlington.

Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N. 4th St. in Burlington. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
