Margaret Irma "Maggie" Burgus 98, of Burlington, died Jan. 10, 2024, at her home under care of SE Iowa Regional Hospice and family.
Born Nov. 20, 1925, in Garden Grove, she was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Crago. She was the youngest of four sisters, Jeraldine Nelson, Helen Good, and Jeanetta Hertlein.
Maggie graduated from Burlington High School in 1943. Prior to graduation, she worked part-time at Midwest Biscuit Company. She then worked at the telephone company NWB.
Margaret married Paul Robert Burgus at Bethany Lutheran Church May 9, 1946. And began the joy of her life, her family. He died Jan. 15 1955. Margaret raised her children by herself with love and devotion. While raising her children she was employed at IRC/TRW for 25 years. Then was employed at BMC.
Maggie was a long-time volunteer for Great River Hospice. She enjoyed swimming, bike riding, walking, quilting, crochet, and knitting. She also enjoyed quilt club and genealogy.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for most of her life.

Maggie is survived by her husband; daughters Judy Leu and Liz (Jeff) Snow Son Mark (Lisa) Burgus. Son Paul Daniel (Sheila) Burgus died in 2021. She is also survived by grandchildren; Brian Leu, Amy (Kyle) Bryson, Katie (Joe) Kosky, Kayla (Charlie) Smith, Kyle Burgus, and Kevin (Kelci) Burgus, Reagan (Tyler) Naftz, Riley (Jay) LeNoble, Ryanne (Jake) Baldwin and Ryker Snow. Great grandchildren; Riley and Hunter Leu, Abbie and Emily Bryson, Barret and Millie Smith, Charlie and Franklin Baldwin, Lorelei and Hannah Kosky.
According to Maggie’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Iowa Cremation.
A celebration of life of life will be held in Maggie’s honor this spring, her favorite time of the year.
Memorials in Maggie’s name should be sent to South East Iowa Regional Hospice or the Burlington Public Library.
