Jerry W. McCollum, 77, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born on Jan. 25, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Cecil W. and Constance E. (Cooper) McCollum. On July 12, 1971, in West Burlington, he married Barbara Jean Ciska.

Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Burlington High School and a United States Navy veteran. He served on the U.S.S. Lewis and Clark submarine as Sonarman. For thirty-six years Jerry worked as an electrician for West Burlington Railroad Shop where he retired in 2007.

The last six months of Jerry’s life were radically changed. Through his granddaughter (Brittany King) Jerry came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. Jerry loved golfing, shooting pool, bowling, the Beatles, comedy shows like All in the Family and The Simpson’s. One of Jerry’s favorite things to do was to teach his grandchildren various tasks & skills and often loved to tease them. If there was a funny story to be told, Jerry was up for a good belly laugh. Most of all he adored and loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Connie McCollum; wife of fifty-three years Barb; two children: Bobbie (Tom) Cobb of Gause, Texas, and Chad (Dilphia) McCollum of Peyton, Colorado; five grandchildren: Joshua Haworth, Brittany (Tripp) King, Ashley McCollum, Tyler Cobb and Brittany (Gage) Grissom and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, nieces, great nieces and a great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father Cecil Wayne McCollum and faithful companion (the family dog) Boo.

Per his wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel and no services will be held.
