Doris P. Mosley Johnson, 85, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born Aug. 9, 1939, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph and Helen Frick. Doris’ mother was a huge part of her life, the two were inseparable and she served as her caregiver until her death.
She married Richard Lee Mosley on March 20, 1964, he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1980. She later married David Johnson on Sept. 28, 1986, he preceded her in death on April 10, 2023.
Doris was a Real Estate Broker/Owner. In 1971 she co-owned Hummel & Mosley Realty that later became Mosley and Associates, she retired in 2022. During her career she served as President of Board of Realtors.
Doris’ father founded Burlington Amusement Park in 1943, after his death in 1959, she took over the ownership and operational duties for the Amusement Park. She loved and enjoyed her work with the community that the park provided. Due to the sickness of her husband in 1979 she made the choice to care for him. She forever kept the fond memories of the park in her heart.
She was active as a member of the Kings Daughters and Son’s What-So-Ever Circle and the Red Hats. She helped establish Sunrise West Residential Community and was actively on that board. She was of the Christian faith.
She loved horses and all animals and cared for them at the amusement park and throughout her life. She loved driving and going places with her favorite being Panama City Beach where she would spend her days near the water on the beach and in the sun.
Doris cherished her time outdoors, tending to her yard, caring for her pool and nurturing her flowers, and relishing the sounds of frogs and crickets on warm evenings. She treasured time with her family and working on her stained glass. Doris had a passion for games, though her competitive spirit always shone through, ensuring she had a say in how every round unfolded.
She is survived by her children; Debbie Mosley Nelson (Phil) of Burlington, Lisa Mosley of Burlington, Dory Stevens (Sean) of Urbandale, Ted Mosley (Heather) of Burlington and her great-granddaughter, Mikayla Baxter of Burlington; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; step children, Jenny Ross and Jeff Johnson; two special nephews, Jim Frick and Robert Frick and special niece Susie Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and daughter Deanna.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13 at Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Kings Daughters or to P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter.
