Janet Rose Hockings, 87, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.
Born August 16, 1934, in Mediapolis, Iowa, she was the daughter of George C. and Mary D. Dunbar Alderson. She married James E. Hockings on June 25, 1955, in Burlington. He died on December 1, 2016.
Janet was a 1953 graduate of Mediapolis High School. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, all kinds of puzzles (crossword, circle-a-word) and was a proud caregiver.
Survivors include her daughter Debbie (Gene) Lingafelter of Sherrard, Ill.; two grandchildren, Dr. Tobin (Jane) Lingafelter of Ballwin, Mo., and Nichol (Bryan) Starr of Boise, Idaho; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Gavin, Ashby, Jonah, Boden, Annalie, and Elsahday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, three brothers, Dwight Alderson, J.R. Alderson, and Vernon Alderson, and three sisters, Helen Marshall, Ruth Giffin, and Shirley Huntington.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hockings will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
