John Kruft, 65, of Burlington, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born February 27, 1960, in Evanston, Ill., he was the son of Raymond and Ione Sturgeon Cowart.&nbsp; John worked as a security guard for a few different companies, including a nuclear power plant in Illinois. Most recently, he worked as an operations manager for Dollar Tree.&nbsp; John was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism. He was passionate about reenacting events and even made some of his own armor to wear. He enjoyed playing pool and darts and was always happy to take on a worthy opponent in a game of chess. Survivors include his sister, Anne (Michael) Hill of Burlington; one brother, Richard Allen of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; two nieces, Katherine (Michael) Flint and Victoria Davidson; three great nephews and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ione Sturgeon Cowart and step-father, Raymond Cowart. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.
