Janice E. Kemp, 97, of Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born on April 1, 1929, in Muscatine, Iowa, she was the daughter of C. Ray and Emma Beik Kemp. The family lived in West Liberty, Iowa, until World War II, when they moved to Burlington, Iowa, and her father began working for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She assisted her mother in their boarding house, taking care of people and providing meals to everyone.

Janice was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1953, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. At the young age of 88, Janice took great pride in receiving a Certificate of Completion, obtaining her high school diploma. It was so unique, that she was on the national news for her achievement. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and always attending church services at Klein Center. Janice had a servant’s heart, and loved being given different tasks to do at Klein Center. Her most favorite task was delivering the mail daily. Most of all Janice loved spending time with family, especially all her cousins who meant the world to her.

She is survived by many loving and caring cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings in infancy.

A graveside service for Janice will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, in Aspen Grove Cemetery with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating.
