
Gary L. Kirby, 79, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 24, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House.
Born April 20, 1945, he was the son of Clarence R. and Bertha Lucille Firkins Kirby. On Dec. 1, 1973, he married the love of his life, Lea Anne Bonar. They were married 50 years when she passed away on June 24, 2024. Together they had two children: Kyle Kirby and Kasie Kirby.
Gary was a 1963 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked for J.I. Case Corp., where he retired from in 2002. Gary loved to read, always with a book he was currently reading. He loved bird watching, coin collecting and belonged to the Burlington Coin Club. Gary enjoyed outdoor sports and activities in his youth and drag racing. He was a big Hawkeye and Pittsburg Steelers fan, watching every game he could. Most of all Gary always valued and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his two children: Kyle (Tiffany) Kirby and Kasie Kirby; two grandchildren: Brinks and Bristol Kirby; brother Chuck Kirby and a sister in-law Alma Kirby. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lea Anne, brother Larry Kirby and many other family members and friends.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A celebration of ife will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
