
Gladys Eileen Huston, 90, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 5:36 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois.
She was born June 27, 1935 in LaHarpe, the daughter of Loyal and Hazel (Alexander) Bennett. Gladys was a 1953 graduate of LaHarpe High School. On December 19, 1954, she married Alfred Huston in LaHarpe.
Earlier in life, Gladys worked for Hasten’s News Stand in LaHarpe before beginning a secretarial career. Over the course of her life she was employed by many local businesses and organizations, including the LaHarpe Christian Church, Poulter’s Flower Shop, Fred Gibb Chevrolet, LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center and their family business, Town & Country Services.
Gladys was a devoted Christian. As a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church and the Burnside Christian Church, she took an active role within her church family. She served with the Go Ye Mission Group, taught Sunday School, assisted with Vacation Bible School, cooked for church dinners and events and played piano. She and Alfred were also founding members of the West Burlington Christian Church. They made several mission trips with the Mexico Missions Group; helping build homes and establishing food programs for the locals. Most of all, Gladys loved helping people and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Alfred; one daughter, Debbie (Brad) Hunt of Macomb, Illinois; one son: Rex (Teresa) Huston of LaHarpe; nine grandchildren: Colby (Shey) Hunt, Colleen (Joey) Woodruff, Bobi (Grant) James, AJ (Jamie) Huston, Ty (Rachel) Huston, Clay (Christina) Huston, Boni (Dillon) Garner, Tucker (Shelby) Huston and Trace (Becca) Huston; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter on the way.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth and Shirley Bennett, and one sister in infancy: Gail.
Gladys’ funeral service with be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with Pastor Nate McCarter and Pastor Mark Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at the LaHarpe Cemetery.
Prior to the service, the family will receive from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
