Chris Nichols, 68, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born October 24, 1953, in Oskaloosa, Ia., he was the son of Dean Nichols and Josephine Hamilton Fageol. 

He received his bachelor of art degree from Central University, majoring in Physics and receiving minors in Chemistry and Mathematics.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving from 1977 to 1983. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1987 to 1996.

Chris worked in aerospace engineering and research and served a combined 16 years in the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Chris was a member of the Naval Reserve Association, Marine Corps League- Hamilton Walters Detachment, International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), American Institute of Physics (SPS), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, American Chemical Society, U.S. Naval Institute, Naval Helicopter Association, Sons of the American Revolution, and CircleK; a college student affiliate of the Kiwanis. He enjoyed being outside playing tennis, going on runs, skiing, swimming, camping, hiking, bicycling, and most other outdoor activities. Chris enjoyed model building, woodworking, and refurbishing antiques. He especially loved playing guitar and flying. 

Survivors include his mother, Josephine Fageol; daughter, Jennifer A. (Kevin) Talley of Burlington; son, Robert C. Nichols of Mt Pleasant; four siblings, Mary (Tom) Bowen of Yarmouth, Jim Fageol of Burlington, Gigi (Tony) Robertson of Burlington, and Kelly Fageol of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father and uncle Jim Nichols.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Nichols will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Carl Mann officiating. 

The graveside Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. 

Memorials can be made to Toys for Tots and Marine Corps League in Chris's name.
