Linda Kay Miller, 78, of Waukee, formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Wesley on Grand in Des Moines.
Born Dec. 9, 1946, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles William and Ruth Cooper Johnson. On August 25, 1970, she married Richard Amiel Miller in Mazatlan, Mexico. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2005.
She graduated from Apollo High School in Burlington and later received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Iowa.
Linda started teaching language arts at Apollo High School and later for Burlington High School and finished her career teaching at Horace Mann Middle School for 15 years. She was a devoted, favorite teacher and friend to all of her students and colleagues. Linda retired in 2005 after 30 years of teaching.
Linda enjoyed vacationing and camping with her family. She loved shopping and dining with her family and friends. Maui, Hawaii was her favorite vacation spot where she loved the white sandy beaches and boating and snorkeling adventures. Linda's true love was her home of 52 years where she took pride in her antiques and a crisp-clean cut lawn. She was well-loved by so many, especially her childrenś friends who became like her chosen family. Her kindness, generosity, and open-door policy were the perfect recipe for a house full of teenagers at all times. In return, they kept her youthful and full of sass.
She lived a very blessed life with her children whom she was very close with, but she later discovered that being a Nana brought her the greatest joy. Her sweet spirit was contagious and her strength was admirable; kicking cancer's ass three times and surviving a house fire at 76 years old, fighting until the end, and going out strong.
Survivors include her son, Cooper J. Miller of Burlington; daughter, Lauren E. (Joshua) Miller of Clive, IA; granddaughter, Ellaria Ruthlynne Miller and grandson, Emmerich Ardan Gray Miller; brother and sister in law, Kim and Robert Miller; and niece and nephew, Alexia Allen and Klayton Miller.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sherry Daniels; and niece, Danielle Sartorius.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
