Anne Wischmeier, 99, of Burlington, died Monday, March 13, 2023, at OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Bernard Wende and Mary Lulu Arnold Merriam. On Sept. 28, 1947, she married Ebert Edward Wischmeier in Fairfield, Iowa. He died on Jan. 5, 1999. 

Anne was a high school graduate. In 1946, she graduated from Parsons College with a Bachelor's degree in English. 

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a member of P.E.O, Chapter H.U., Lutheran Church Women, Shakespeare Club, and The Book Club. Anne enjoyed reading, knitting, watching bull riding, playing Pinochle, and cards. She was very social and loved being around people. 

Survivors include two sons, Dan (Julie) Wischmeier of Burlington and Jeffrey (Lisa) Wischmeier of Clinton; one daughter, Wende (Ron) Eoff of Dallas, Tex.; one grandchild, Jodan Wischmeier of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandsons, Bradley (Kiera) Howell of Iowa City and Jordan (Sarah) Howell of Burlington; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and friend, Jorge (Maria) Galindez of Argentina. 

Besides her husband of 51 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Helen Stewart, one brother, Robert Merriam, and one grandson, James Wischmeier. 

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Anne will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Pete Hagglund officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church immediately following the service. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.  

A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.
