Robert Barnes, Jr.

Robert Eugene Barnes, Jr., 67, of Salem, died at noon Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Aug. 27, 1954, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Robert Eugene Barnes and Catherine Almeada Bollinger Feehan. 

Mr. Barnes served in the  U.S. Army from July 17, 1972, to Sept. 3, 1976. He worked many years for Heatilator and designed fireplaces.

He was dedicated to the Lord and was ordained. He was crafty and artistic and enjoyed inventing things, fishing, and walks to the creek to find arrowheads and stones. His pride and joy was his beloved dogs.

Survivors include four children, Steven Robertson of Chicago, Misty Zuffa and Adam Bates, both of Oklahoma, and Kenny Wilson of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie (Gary) Henry of Carman, Ill., and Pam Scott of Salem, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Becky Jo Barnes.

The graveside service for Mr. Barnes will be at  1 p.m. Friday, Oct 15, 2021, in Keokuk National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service will meet at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington prior to the service for a procession departing at noon. 

A memorial has been established.
