Larry L. Kelly, 80, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born Dec. 15, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Louis Lee and U. Pearl Hootman Kelly. He married Barbara in Germany, and she preceded him in death. 

Larry graduated from the Burlington Community Schools.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from Sept. 11, 1969 until Sept. 10, 1975.

Larry spent most of his life as a truck driver and loved doing just that. He was a big reader. It was known that Larry would read almost any book you would put in front of him. When he wasn't invested in a book, you could find him watching old movies, especially westerns. Larry always had a song in his head. He was always singing no matter what. Above all, he especially loved his children, grandchildren, and family.

Survivors include his first wife, Sandra Morgan; son, Keith (Katherine ) Kelly of  Fort Gratiot, Mich., daughter, Kari (Roger) Benz of Wever, son, Michael Kelly of Germany, son, Eric (Kimberly) Kelly of Burlington; sister Sherry (Dan) Weinreich of Lomax, Ill.; grandchildren, Jarrett Cole Kelly of Mich., Morgan Kelly of Mich., Akiura Pena of Germany, Charisma Kelly of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Pearl, and two brothers, Donald Dean Kelly, and Jerry J. Kelly 

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Kelly will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at Joy Baptist (2815 Avenue L, Fort Madison, IA) with Dan Weinreich officiating.  

A memorial has been established for Compassus Hospice Care.
