Robert “Rob” James Rohrer Jr., 66, of Burlington, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his home.
Born July 7, 1956, in Newport, R.I., he was the son of Robert James and Dolores Marie Wallace Rohrer, Sr. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Rob graduated from Burlington High School in 1975 and later attended classes at Southeastern Community College. On Aug. 8, 1997, he married the love of his life, Carol Anne Hulett in Danville.
Rob was a fabrication operator at General Electric until his retirement in 2016. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. Rob enjoyed coaching at the YMCA for T-ball, football, baseball, and basketball. You could often find him creating woodworking projects in his shop. He had an eye for photography and enjoyed researching genealogy. Rob loved to travel and he was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife Carol of Burlington; one son Robert “Rob” J. (Dawn) Rohrer III of Burlington; one daughter Dawn Marie (Troy) Cooper of Burlington; grandchildren Dakota Schneidler, Drake Joseph Specketer, Michaela “Tulip” Specketer, Caitlyn Nichole Cooper, Isaac Buechel, Reagan Marie Rohrer, Emma Lee Rohrer, Jax Robert Rohrer; four great-grandchildren; two sisters Beverly (David) Wilson of West Burlington and Barbara (Kenneth) Johnson of Bloomfield; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons Nathan James Specketer and Joseph John Specketer; mother-in-law and father-in-law Donald C. and Georgia B. Hulett of Mediapolis.
The visitation for Rob will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends, followed by the memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. with Pastor Jan Garza officiating. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the Kidney Foundation and University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
