David Leroy Frink was born on January 16, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up on Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, the beginning of a life defined by adventure and service. He completed high school in Biloxi, Mississippi.

At 18, David enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Corpsman and an Aerospace Medical Technician. His service took him to Beirut, Lebanon, where he served alongside a Marine explosive ordnance disposal unit. He completed 10 years of active duty.

Following his military service, David briefly served with the US Border Patrol before channeling his athleticism into semi-professional football with the San Diego Storm. Around 1992, he lent his creativity to Revolutionary Comics, writing sports comic books, a glimpse of the thoughtful, curious mind that defined him.

David was living with his family in Biloxi when Hurricane Katrina struck, forcing them to seek a new home. They soon found themselves in Iowa, where David returned to school at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Religion, and studying Russian and Spanish.

After completing his studies, David worked in security, taking on various roles that suited his disciplined, watchful nature. In 2020, he faced perhaps his most personal battle, falling ill to COVID-19. True to form, he survived, though his remaining years were spent recovering from its lasting impact.

A well-traveled man with a lifelong curiosity about the world and beyond it, David had a deep passion for UFO and paranormal theories that endeared him to those who knew him. He loved football, cheering passionately for the Chicago Bears and the Oakland Raiders.

In his final act of generosity, David donated his organs through the Iowa Donor Network, giving one last time to others in need. He passed peacefully on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Candyce, and their four daughters: Brandyce and her fiancé, Jeremy Springer, Aubrey and her husband, Randy Rote, Ember, and Erin and her husband, Samuel Durben.

A military funeral service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa, Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 9:30 am.
