Annabel "Ann" Carder, 89, of Burlington, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at her home.

Born June 22, 1935, in Stillwell, Ill., she was the daughter of Jake and Aileen Crear Tanner. Ann married Ernest "Ernie" Conn and had three children before their divorce. On July 2, 1976 she married Jack Alter in Oquawka, Ill. He passed on June 10, 1982. On July 16, 1984, she married Billy Joe Carder in Burlington. They later divorced.  

She graduated from Bowen Community High School in Bowen, Ill. as class secretary and valedictorian in 1953.

Ann worked  for 26 years as a Dictating Machine Transcriber for the Department of Human Services in the State of Iowa, retiring in 1996.

Ann loved to bake and cook, and would prepare large holiday feast. She could always be found shopping, reading or working on her crocheting, and loved to gift afghans. She loved to spend time with family, either on their outings at the river, fish fry and other gatherings. Ann was of Christian faith.  

Survivors include three children, Rick Conn of Burlington, Randy Conn of Jacksonville, Fla. and Kathy Martin of Burlington;  four grandchildren, Brandy Conn, Brenda Conn, Dustin Alter and Kim Pauly; seven great-grandchildren, Brylea, Preston, Braelynn, Kinsley, Lia, Lincoln, and June; four step sons; two step daughters; two brothers, Joe Tanner of La Grange, Mo. and Larry Tanner of Warsaw, Ill.; one sister, Judie Flesner of Camp Point, Ill. and several nieces and nephews..

She was preceded in death by her parents, her second husband, Jack Alter, her third husband, Bill Carder, one brother Dave Tanner, one step son Mike Carder, great grandson, Brodi Sattler  and nephew Monte Tanner.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Ann will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell officiating.  Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
