Mark Allen Wemmie, 65, of West Burlington, died Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Dec. 27, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Alberta Schulz Wemmie. On Nov. 6, 1982, he married Mary Ellen Schemmel.
Mark was a kind soul. He was a big sports fan. He loved watching his sons play when they were younger; and never passed an opportunity to root for the Bears, Cubs and Cyclones. He liked music and woodworking and would make absolutely beautiful pieces. Mark enjoyed camping. Moreover, he loved spending time with the grand kids and his family. His kindness will be missed, but his memory will be carried by all who love him.
Mark's family include his cherished wife of 41 years, Mary Wemmie; two sons, Matthew Hallie Wemmie of Des Moines, and Brian (Jennifer Benjamin) Wemmie of Coralville; four grandchildren, Henry, Lorelei, Harrison, and Emerson; brother, Donald (Mary) Wemmie; two sisters, Linda (William) Bozwell and Donna (Steve) Beyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Keith.
The funeral service for Mark will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church (2710 West Avenue, Burlington) with Pastor Simeon Counterman officiating. Mark's family will receive guests at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. Mark will be laid to rest at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Cavalry Baptist church following the burial.
A memorial has been established for the West Burlington Fire Department.
