Jodelle Hallowell, 81, of rural Dallas City, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.
Jodelle was born Dec. 13, 1942, in LaHarpe, Ill., the daughter of Jack and Mary Belle Bradshaw Sharpe. On April 5, 1964, she married Donald Wayne Hallowell in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death April 24, 2006.
She was a 1961 graduate of LaHarpe High School. She later graduated from the Burlington Beauty Academy. Jodelle operated her own beauty shop, “Modern Hair” for 25 years. In 1989 she began what would become a 35 year career at the bank in LaHarpe, retiring earlier this year. She enjoyed working in her yard, planting mandevilla plants in the spring, gardening and all animals, but especially her cats.
Survivors include two sons: Scott Hallowell of rural Dallas City, Jamie (Ginger Ricketts) Hallowell of Burlington; two sisters: Jackie (Gary) Eddington of Carterville, Ill. and Claudia (Charles) Apt of LaHarpe; one brother: Ted (Terri) Sharpe of LaHarpe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are her granddogs and her co-workers at the bank.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is assisting with arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at the LaHarpe Christian Church with John Earle officiating. The family will meet with friends from 1:00 until time of services at the church. Burial will follow in the Durham Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for area animal shelters.
