Richard Lee Schmidt, 73, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at his home. Aug. 1, 1950, in Burlington, he was the son of Roy and Marguerite Bonar Schmidt. On March 30, 1974, he married Cindee Crabb. They later divorced.
Richard worked as a heavy equipment manufacturer and a welder for J.I. Case for many years.
He served his country with the United States Army.
Richard loved music, golfing, his muscle cars, and following NASCAR. He loved watching his shows which included; westerns, Colombo and Murder She Wrote. He will be remembered as a kind hearted good man, who was a jokester and stubborn at times.
Survivors include his children, Gregory (Tara) Schmidt of Texas, and Sarah Schmidt of Burlington; two grandchildren, William Schmidt, and Ava Schmidt; his sister, Shirley (John) Schnedler of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald "Ribeye" and John; and one sister, Rosemary Olson.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard following the visitation.
A memorial has been established to the Burlington Area Honor Guard.
