Marilyn Ann Nelson, 97, of Burlington, died on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Marilyn's family would like to express their gratitude to Azria Health Prairie Ridge and the Klein Center for the wonderful care they provided to Marilyn.
Born August 4, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edwin and Catherine Muckensturm Miller. She married the love of her life, Dr. Milford D. Nelson in Corsicana, TX, on July 24, 1943, where he was in flight training in Eagle Pass, TX. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2005. They were married 63 wonderful years.
Mrs. Nelson was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She loved the time traveling with her husband to his fighter pilot reunions and traveling with her husband to Florida and Arizona for 20 years in the winter. She loved the time she spent with her family and their families and also enjoyed caring for her Schnauzer dogs.
She is survived by her four children, David (Pat) Nelson, Cynthia (Dr. Larry) Taylor, JoAnn (Jon) Wynn, and Mary Beth (Arlen) Shofe, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Dianna) Taylor, Jennifer (Dr. Troy) Stafford, Eric (Jackie) Shofe, Andrea (Jon) Schmidt, Hillary (Mark) Hansen, Haley Oppenheimer, and Megan (Andrew) Spring; 14 great-grandchildren, Mia, Eli, Sophia, Joey, John, Brett, Samantha, Alyvia, Brooklyn, Owen, Silas, Grey, Alaina and Jack; one great-great-grandchild, Brooklyn; one sister, Judith Hanks of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Brian Shofe, and one brother, Merle Miller.
As per Marilyn's request cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.
There will be no visitation.
The Private Graveside Committal and Inurnment for Mrs. Nelson will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
