Mabel Irene Houston, 93, of Burlington, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Born May 11, 1930, in Hancock County, Ill., she was the daughter of Frank and Alma Neil Felgar and step-mother Helen.
Irene attended Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ill.. She was a lifelong production worker before retiring in 2008. After retiring, she worked for Speed Queen Laundry in Burlington for 15 years.
Irene was a member of the Eagles club and Moose Lodge in Burlington. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and growing flowers. She enjoyed her work at the laundromat where she developed many friendships. Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son Clifford (Kelly) Houston of Missouri; two daughters Barbara (Richard) Thomas of Pasadena, Calif. and Donna Clifford of Burlington, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles (Marge) Felgar of Keokuk, two sisters, Trudy (Dale) Best of Woodland, California, and Esther (Truman) Jinst of Florida; one stepbrother Bill Marshall of Carthage, Ill.; one stepsister Shirley De of Marengo, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Ms. Houston will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, at Lunning Chapel with Rev. David Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ill.
