Bret Moews

Bret Andrew Moews, 57, of Danville, Iowa, died October 30, 2026, at his home.

Born December 31, 1968, in Waverly, Iowa, he was the son of William Frank and Rachel Janette (Mueller) Moews.  He married Lucinda Fahlgren DeHart on September 20, 1991.  They later divorced.

Bret was a dedicated teacher, principal and coach for over 30 years.  In addition, he would work seasonally with the Iowa State Department of Natural Resources.

He was very sarcastic and had an unmatchable sense of humor!  He loved giving people a hard time, was a jokester, and had a huge heart.  He saw the “real” in people and would do anything for anyone.  Bret loved the outdoors, duck hunting and being on the lake, it was his happy place.

Bret adored his kids, grandkids and his entire family and truly lived life to the fullest.  He was so very proud of his family.

He will be truly missed by his two children, Ben (Josh) Moews of Huxley, Iowa, Alix Moews (Garth Gripenberg) of Des Moines, Iowa; his “lady friend” Beth Duerksen and companion of Danville, Iowa; grandchildren, Spencer, Liam, Silas, Zelda, Cameron and Asher; father William Moews (Jean Haskell) of West Des Moines, Iowa; siblings, Dean William (Susie) Moews of Adel, Iowa and Janette (Aaron) Stecker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews and his hunting dog Cash.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

The funeral service for Mr. Moews will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington.  Burial will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley, Iowa.
