Gertrude Regena "Trudy" Holmes, 91, died Dec. 22, 2023. Born on Jan. 20, 1932, in Butler County, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Frieda Reka Hippen Aswegen.
Trudy was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church and a life-long member of Kings Daughters, Burlington Moose Lodge #579, and VFW Auxiliary Post 10102. She married Carlton W. Holmes Jr. in 1957 and they later divorced.
Trudy was a CNA at Ft. Madison Home Health. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She loved gardening and will always be remembered for her positive and cheerful outlook. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She is survived by four, much loved, children Valerie (Ralph) Kitch, Edward (Joanne) Holmes, Diane (Mike) Sayre, and Michelle (Gregg Dunn) Holmes; eight cherished grandchildren Calvin, Sarah, Collin, Kendall, Grace, John, Joe, Philip; four great-grandchildren Nicholas, Ryan, Miles, Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Frieda Reka Aswegen, son John Holmes; ex-husband Carlton Holmes and two brothers Harmon and Donald.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The memorial service for Trudy will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Lunning Chapel with Ryan Cosgrove officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa at a later date.
A luncheon will be held at Carthage Lake Club in Carmen, Ill. following the memorial service.
