
Virginia Robu, 97, of West Point and previously of Mediapolis and Morning Sun areas, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1928, to Henry and Gladys Stigge Hauswirth. While working as an operator for Northwest Bell Telephone in Burlington, she met Mayford “Louie” Robu, and they were united in marriage on Aug. 31, 1952.
Virginia was a graduate of Mediapolis High School and worked several years in the Mediapolis School District. She was known to many in the area from her work at the Mediapolis Dental Office where she was the receptionist for many years. Virginia enjoyed many travels and hobbies in her life and was a long-time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law Connie of Mauldin, S.C., a son Randy (Lynn) of West Point; four grandchildren Jason Robu of Mauldin, S.C., Heather (Jason) Garner of Columbia, S.C., Dalton Robu of West Point, and Alison Robu of Cedar Rapids; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law Donna Hauswirth of Sperry and Dixie Hauswirth of Morning Sun.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband Louie; son, Robin; her three brothers Leroy “Whitey” Hauswirth, Floyd Hauswirth and Lawrence Hauswirth and one granddaughter.
The funeral service for Mrs. Robu will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Jerleen Schlesser officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church.
