Erma M. Baker, 94, of Burlington, died Sunday, Oct.27, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab in Burlington.

Born on Dec. 22, 1929, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Stella Ruschill Lucas. On June 19, 1948, in Burlington, she married Howard Baker Jr. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2008.

Erma graduated in the class of 1947 from Sperry High. She was a member of St. John’s of Flint River Township and former member of the VFW Auxiliary #10102. Erma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, planting flowers, watching birds, singing, playing the piano and accordion and going to the mall and walking with her friends. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Erma loved having her daughters over and baking Christmas cookies every year. Every Wednesday evening, she enjoyed getting her weekly phone call from her grandson Mark. Most of all Erma loved being with her family.

She is survived by her three daughters: Barb (Warren) Loper, Lynne (Rick) Evans both of Sperry, and Karen Baker of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Kathy (Franklin) Espanto of San Antonio, Texas, Beth (Mike) Moehler of Mediapolis, Mark (Becka) Loper of Richland, Iowa, Justin Loper and Melissa Loper both of Sperry, Chad (Jill) Evans and Kyle (Sandy) Evans both of Mediapolis; sister Shirley (Lester) Granaman of Sperry, and sister in-law Jeannie Lucas of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, five brothers, two sisters and one great grandson Ben.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded with Lunning Chapel.

The memorial service for Erma will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at Lunning Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour before the service where the family will meet with friends. Burial will be held in St. John’s of Flint River Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory for St. John’s of Flint River Township Cemetery or Compassus Hospice.
