
Helen Krekel Krogmeier, 94, of Burlington, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Accura Healthcare of Ames in Ames, Iowa.
Born July 13, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William Elmer and Lena Regina Messmer Krekel.
Helen was an exceptionally kind and giving person who was beloved by her family and her friends. She was very active and kept fit through a regimen of aerobics, walking and bicycling into her late 80’s. She was a wonderful mother and “Grammy". She played an active part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
When she retired after 29 years of service at Northwestern Bell, she spent years volunteering with The Telephone Pioneers, donating to and traveling with the blood bank, delivering Meals on Wheels, and serving as a “Funeral Lunch Lady” for St. John’s.
Helen married Billy Ernest Fidler in 1947 and they had three children who survive them: Julie (Dennis) Dixon of Cambridge Iowa; Mark (Dana) Fidler of Argyle, Texas; and Jane (Kevin) Smith of Des Moines. She is survived by all of her grandchildren: Josh (Carrie) of The Hamptons, New York; Jessica (Andy) Disch of Edina, Minnesota; Taylor (Jenn) Fidler of Lubbock, Texas; Jacob Fidler of Dallas, Texas; Nicole (Sean) Dixon of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Brenda (Bob) Parish of Runnells, Iowa and her great grandchildren; Jordan, Hudson, Bennett, Elayne, Jessie, Max, MarieElise, Coleman, Sophie, and Sydnie. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Coyne of Saint Joseph, Missouri; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Krekel, of Burlington and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her brothers Bill, Ray, Paul and Jim Krekel and by her husband, Bob Krogmeier, who she married in 1982.
Family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Krogmeier will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of St. John's Church immediately following the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
