Chris Devon Downs, 38, of Burlington, died Monday, September 5, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born January 1, 1984, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Carlos and Karen Greenup Downs.
He attended Burlington High School. While in school, he was involved in many sports. He broke a record for fastest in Track.
Chris enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and racing his friends for fun. He and his brother, David started making music together and would write songs about their childhoods and growing up in Woodlawn. He was interested in shoes and fashion and looking "super fly". Chris had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to make people laugh and when he was with his friend Ruppert, they were like Mike and Martin from Bad Boys. The most important thing to Chris was his family and spending time with them. He was the spitting image of his grandfather and loved visiting his grandmother every day.
Survivors include his father, Carlos (Sharockia) Downs; mother, Karen (Kevin McCoy) Downs; three children Kobe Edmunds, Malik Barker, and Mila Downs; one brother, David Michael Turner Jr.; five sisters, Nicole (Khari Mathew) Humphries, Tamara Greenup, Kierra Greenup, Shalee Brown, and Natreia Brown; six aunts, Dorothy Stout, Theresa Greenup, Kay Greenup, Christy (Kenneth) Poullard, Mona Jones, and Brenda (Floyd) Clack; six uncles, William (Charyne) Greenup, Jr., Lewis Jones, Jose Jones, Douglas Jones, Lyncha Downs, John Downs, and Stan Downs; several nieces and nephews including, Dashawna, Bryan, Davis, Jordan, Savoy and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mack Downs and Zettie Jones, maternal grandparents, William and Ruby Greenup, and Aunt Ernestine Robinson.
Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. with the family to receive friends Monday, September 12, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Downs will be 1 p.m. Monday, September 12, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell and ElderTerrance Manning officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for his family.
