Ronald Richard Edmund Joseph Holtkamp, 84, of Burlington, died Wednesday, December 10, 2025, unexpectedly at his home in Burlington.

Born April 9, 1941, at his family's home outside of Bonaparte, IA, he was the son of Stephen Otto and Rosine Catherine Pollmiller Holtkamp. On May 11, 1968, he married Bonnie Beth Brayton in West Point. 

Ron graduated from high school in Houghton, Iowa, and went on to attend St. Ambrose University, where he earned a degree in History and Economics. He later returned to further his education, pursuing studies in Criminology.   

A proud veteran, Ron served in the United States Army from March 13, 1964, to March 5, 1966. He continued his service with the Army National Guard until his discharge on February 28, 1970.

In 1971, Ron began a 20 year career with the Burlington Police Department, starting as a street officer. He later became a detective and assisted other agencies with their investigations. He retired from the department in 1991.

Ron was a man of the Catholic faith. He was known for always keeping himself busy; whether maintaining his properties or rebuilding computers. He cherished spending time with his wife at their country property outside Mt. Sterling. Ron will be remembered for his meticulous nature, his organization, and his unwavering preparedness in all things.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Holtkamp of Burlington, and several nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, Jane Denning, Edna Fullenkamp, Joan Bentler, Paul Holtkamp, Anna Jingst, Mildred Mettenburg, Myrtle Peterschmidt, Alphonse Holtkamp and Stephen Holtkamp.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Ron's service will be held in the spring. 

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Burlington Police Department.
