Aletha Christina Carter, 99 of Des Moines, formerly of Burlington, died at Unity Point Health-Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Born July 28, 1923 in Burlington she was the daughter of John and Amelia Wirt Burgus. Aletha was a previous member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She married Allie Carter on May 14, 1954 in Burlington. He died September 27, 1985.
Aletha was an operator supervisor for Northwestern Bell where she worked for 15 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include two daughters Sharon Carter of Boone and Carol Carter of Des Moines; one son Thomas Carter of Burlington; three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
The graveside service for Aletha will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
