
Dr. Daniel Bruce "Dan" Garrison, a beloved husband, father, orthodontist, and veteran, passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 47. His life was marked by dedication to his family, profession, community, and service to others.
Born on March 6, 1979, Dr. Garrison grew up in Richmond, Virginia. After high school, he served a two-year mission in Peru, where he became fluent in Spanish. He later attended Brigham Young University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and met his wife, Silvia Bazán.
Dr. Garrison earned his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University through a full-ride Navy scholarship. He served seven years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, including assignments at Camp Pendleton, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and board-certified orthodontist, Dr. Garrison began practicing dentistry in 2009 and later owned River Ridge Orthodontics in Burlington, Iowa. He took great pride in his work and was known for his compassionate care, kindness, and dedication to his patients.
A proud Eagle Scout, Dr. Garrison remained active in scouting throughout his life. He was a member of Troop 3 in Burlington, Iowa, and Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Order of the Arrow in Richmond, Virginia. He collected rare Boy Scout patches and regularly volunteered at the Nawakwa Scouting Museum. He loved helping his sons achieve their Scouting goals and become Eagle Scouts, just as he had.
Dr. Garrison enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing, grilling, playing guitar, and making homemade yogurt. He had a wonderful singing voice and enjoyed singing cumbia music, especially to his wonderful wife. He was known for his honesty, strong values, and ability to make those around him laugh.
Dr. Garrison is survived by his devoted wife Silvia, whom he would talk about in every conversation about how wonderful she was, and their three children Caleb, Gianna, and Liam; his father Gordon Bruce Garrison; siblings Trina (Andrew) Yost, Stephen (Allison) Garrison, Tiffany Tucker, Tara Garrison, and Jackie Garrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind extended family around the world, including loved ones in Peru, Italy, and Japan, as well as many dear friends who will remember his kindness, humor, and friendship.
He was predeceased by his mother Deborah Garrison.
Dr. Daniel Bruce Garrison will be remembered as a kind and devoted man who served others through his profession and volunteerism while always prioritizing time with his wife, children, family, and friends. Those who knew Dan knew that once you got to know him, you loved him.
Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., with the family to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Dr. Garrison will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to Troop 3 in Burlington, Iowa, or Nawakwa Lodge 3 of the Order of the Arrow in Richmond, Virginia, in honor of Dan’s lifelong love of scouting and service.
