Sherry Elaine Smith Stewart, 79, died March 8, 2026, at 9:51 a.m. She was born in Burlington, on June 27, 1946, to Ann L. Thompson Smith and Archie O. Smith.
She was 1964’s Homecoming Queen at BHS and Burlington’s Miss July.
She was married to Phillip Stewart for seven years and they lived in Hawaii.
She worked for Schramms, BMC, Great River Medical Center and Taco Johns.
Being a faithful servant to God, Sherry loved reading the Bible and gave compliments to all whom she encountered.
As an animal lover, her last two pets were cats Piper and Cookie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, cousins Jerry L. Smith, Bruce Benedict, Janice Losey Fritz and Janet Losey Dobbs.
Sherry is survived by her best friends, Pamela George and Sharon Sorenson, cousins Henry H. Smith, Charlotte Losey Bray, Patricia Losey Young, Steven Losey, Pamela Fritz, Celeste Smith Luksetitch, and Melanie Fritz Knedler, and cousin-in-law, Cossette Smith, and other family and friends.
The funeral service for Sherry will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Humane Society.
