
Otto Richard Groenewald Jr., 61, of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Big Hollow Recreation Area.
Born May 21, 1961, in Ottumwa, Iowa, he was the son of Otto Richard and Marcella Groenewald. On March 3, 2001, he married Collette in Oakland Mills Campground in Henry County, where the couple served as campground hosts.
He was a 1979 graduate of Burlington High School.
He was a US Army Veteran.
Otto was a retired Staff Rep for AFSME. He and Collette were campground hosts at Big Hollow Recreation Area for many years, welcoming guests and assuring everyone had a great experience.
Otto was a rock hound. He enjoyed nature, camping, and especially loved sharing bad jokes on a daily basis.
Survivors include his wife; Collette Groenewald; daughter, Shayla Grobe of Morrison, Ill.; daughter, Cory Collins of Littlefield, Tex.; eight grandchildren; Hunter, Tea, Lyndsey, Katelyn, James, Jasper, Johnathon, and Jacob; three great-grandchildren; Jaycee, Kinslee, and Laynie; one brother, David (Sherry) Groenewald of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 1 p.m. at Big Hollow Campground, 152nd Avenue, Sperry, Ia 52650.
