
Elizabeth Arlene “Betty” Jury, 95, of River Valley Place, Fort Madison, Iowa (formerly of rural Farmington), passed away at 5:55 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
She was born on September 9, 1930, on the family farm in rural Farmington, the daughter of Grover and Hazel (Grimm) Rohdy. On September 4, 1949, she married Jewell E. “Bud” Jury in Primrose, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2025.
She is survived by her children: Carol (Keith - dec.) Knight of Coromandel Valley, South Australia, James (Ann) Jury of Farmington, Iowa, Mary (Bob) Dodds of Montrose, Iowa, Joseph (Debbie) Jury of Ingalls, Kansas, Timothy (Janet) Jury of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert (Yvette) Jury of Iowa City, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law: Alice Rohdy and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bud; son-in-law: Keith Knight; siblings: Ruth, Dale, Helen, Bob, Charles, Jeane and Don.
Betty was a 1948 graduate of Donnellson High School. Following high school she received normal school training. Before she and Bud were married, she worked at Sheaffer Pen Company and the Farmington Creamery. She was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women (PW). She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of PEO, past president of the Harmony music boosters, a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother and American Red Cross volunteer. Betty enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling and was dedicated to the family farm.
Friends may call after 12:00 noon, Friday, October 17, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Sharon Presbyterian Church in rural Farmington, with Pastor Katrina Bergman officiating.
Burial will be at Sharon Cemetery, rural Farmington.
Memorials have been established in her memory for Sharon Presbyterian Church or the American Red Cross.
