Joan Margaret Williams, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 26, 2023, at her home.
Born May 19, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa she was the daughter of Orville B. and Cora E. McNamee Conn Sr.
On April 7, 1957, she married Scott Williams in Burlington.
She was a nurse practitioner, one of the first in the state of Iowa. She worked for Mercy Hospital and then for Planned Parenthood from 1972 until her retirement in 2007.
Joan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington and sang in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and bird watching and was a member of a local bowling league. She volunteered at the hospital until recently and was known for her amazing apple and cherry pies.
Survivors include her husband, Scott Williams of Burlington; children Cassandra Williams of Burlington, Michael (Cheryl) Williams of West Des Moines, Suzanne (George) Billmeyer of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Heather) Williams of Tennessee; nine grandchildren Billy Henderson, Grant Williams, Stewart Williams, Brianna Collum, Stacey Loutsch, Wes Collum, Nathan Billmeyer, Kensley Kropf and Kyan Williams; 12 great-grandchildren Zoey, Mackson, Bodhi, Anthony, Vanessa, Kaystyn, Becca, Kyler, Kody, Carter, Sarah, Quinnley and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held following the memorial service at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
