Frances Jean Lucas, 92, of West Burlington, died Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Oakview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born April 11, 1933, in Henry County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Archie and Mildred Buck.  She married Russell H. Lucas on April 17, 1954 at St. John’s Church of Flint River Township.  He preceded her in death November 27, 2009.

Jean worked for Sylvania, Neisner’s Five and Dime and later for several years for K-Mart until her retirement in 1996.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.  She loved to travel, with her favorite destination being Las Vegas, taking cruises, playing cards and loved cooking for church functions and her family.  She enjoyed her lunch dates with her dear friend Tammy Kuster and adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. 

She is survived by her two children; Connie Smith of Bonaparte, Iowa and Randy Lucas of West Burlington; grandchildren, Clint (Angela) Smith, Mindy Smith, Melissa (Brad) Selby, J. R. (Lucy) Baughman and Shannon (Brian) Whittaker; great grandchildren, Koy, Brody (Olivia), Conner, Afton, Courtney (Cody), Payton, Jarid (Leah), Jayden, Alex (Megan), Arin (Trey), Cody and great-great grandchildren, Koa, Saige, Adalynn, Brooklyn, Ryin, Rylan, Alissa, Ada and Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great grandson Johnathan Cooper, daughter-in-law Vickie Lucas and brother Charles Buck.

The funeral service for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5th at Lunning Chapel.  Pastor Ralph Anderson will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery of Flint River Township.
