Rick David Wilkerson, 66, of Mediapolis, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born on June 21, 1958, in Burlington, he was the son of Lewis Ray “Toad” and Loyola Wilkerson. He was a 1976 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He married Kathy Southwick on June 11, 1988, in Riverside. She died suddenly on May 27, 2024.
Rick owned and operated Wilkerson Transport for many years until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Dodgeville.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and loved boating, golfing, camping and traveling the world alongside his wife. He was passionate about his yard work and had the best manicured yard in Kossuth. Most important to him was time spent with his family and friends and his beloved cat, Louie.
He will be deeply missed by his two daughters; Amber (Mark) Johnston of Mediapolis and Taylor Wilkerson of Burlington; grandchildren, Jackson (Paige), Madison, Sawyer and Jamey; grand dogs, Piper Jo and Luna; sisters, Anita Vantiger of Mt, Union and Vicki Krizek of New London and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathy and infant son Cecil.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Rick will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 10 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dodgeville. The Rev. Father Dominic Nguyen will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Dodgeville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 9th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
