Miles Lamont "Butch" Carter

Miles "Butch" Lamont Carter, 75, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home in Burlington. Born June 21, 1949, in Saint Louis, Mo., he was the son of Bernard and Doretha Rankin Carter. On Oct. 6, 2000, he married Linda Strickland in Des Moines. 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from August 9, 1968 until April 9, 1971.

Butch worked various positions in production, his last employment was Antenna Craft.

He was a member of Apostolic Holiness Temple and was just baptized on April 6, 2025. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting and photography. He loved watching movies and listening to music. Butch also liked cars and was a great cook. 

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carter; his children, Alisha Carter, Semenya Carter, Myles Bernard Carter, and Nick Charles Carter; a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Gipson and Neregin (Marvin) Cummings; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shannon Lamont Carter, two brothers, Bernard "Chuck" Carter Jr. and John Jeffery, and sister Ann Mae Pickens.

Visitation will be from 11 p.m. until noon, Friday, May 2, 2025, at Apostolic Holiness Temple.

The funeral service for Mr. Carter will be 12 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Apostolic Holiness Temple with Pastor Sharice Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Apostolic Holiness Temple following the burial.
