
Fred Miles, 77, of West Burlington, died Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.
Born Oct. 20, 1947, in Oak Park, Ill., he was the son of William Frederick and Eunice Marie Gropp Miles. On May 22, 1976, he married Susan Mary Klein in Berwyn, Ill. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2013. On Oct. 9, 2016, he married Tammy Bartosik in Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington.
He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from Dec. 5, 1967 until Dec. 4, 1973. Fred was highly decorated for his service during the war.
Fred worked for 42 years as a lineman for the Indian Harbor Belt Railroad Company before retiring in 2009.
He was of Lutheran Missouri Synod faith and was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Burlington. Fred was also a member of the American Legion International. He enjoyed playing with model trains, coin collecting, going to the Riverside Casino and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Tammy Miles of West Burlington; son, Matthew Miles of Virginia; five grandchildren, Hailey, Lily, April Stoffle and Jayden and Maci Love; brother, Bill Miles of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Susan Mary Klein.
Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The funeral service for Mr. Miles will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Pastor Christopher Roepke officiating. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the ALS Association or the family has requested that you plant a tree in Fred's memory.
