
James "Jim" Bowen died suddenly on Feb. 10, 2025. Born to Donald Bowen and Janet Schrock/Bowen Beik on March 10, 1965, Jim grew up in Burlington, moved to Mesa, Ariz., where he graduated high school, and later returned to Iowa.
In 1991, Jim married the love of his life, Carolyn Hennings, in Osceola, Nebraska. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, then moved to the Washington, DC metro area, and more recently adopted a nomadic lifestyle, traveling the country and enjoying international travel. Jim worked in the IT industry throughout his career. He will be remembered for his giving nature, unique sense of humor, curious and analytical mind, and the mischievous smirk often on his face.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn; his son, Benjamin Bowen; his mother and stepfather, Janet and Lew Beik of Burlington; his sisters, Celia (Mark) Walz and Cindy (Ashlie Timm) Bowen; his stepbrothers, Mark (Mary) and David Beik; his niece, Jessica Slife, and nephew, Tyler Slife; along with numerous aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Donald Bowen.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at the Cornerstone Event Center, 1204 Washington Street, Burlington.
