David Lee Wolbert, 80, of Burlington, died Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.
Born May 21, 1946, in Burlington, he was the son of Eugene and Rosalie Sodergren Wolbert. On August 12, 1967, he married Corinne Elizabeth "Corky" Mertens. They shared 59 years together.
He graduated from Burlington High School in 1965 and attended SCC. He went on to serve his country in the Army Reserves from 1966-1972.
Dave worked as an Ironworker for 30 years. He also worked at the Iowa State Penitentiary, Expert Tire, and he was a reserve deputy for the Des Moines County Sheriff Department.
If you knew Dave, you knew that he was a good friend and was never wrong. He enjoyed staying active, whether that was enjoying the outdoors through hunting and fishing; practicing his marksmanship; golfing, or taking his Harley out for a cruise with Corky, Dave kept busy. Often, he could be found at the Eagles Club, sharing a story and a laugh; or even playing racquetball in his younger years. Dave was a strong supporter of the SCC booster club and looked forward to watching SCC basketball, and a good Bears or Cardinal's game.
He loved his family deeply, and always looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren. His passing leaves a deep sadness, but his memory will continue through all who love him.
Survivors include his wife, Corinne Wolbert of Burlington; son, Brian (Kim) Wolbert of Eldridge, IA; daughter, Lucia (Steve) Francis of Burlington; grandchildren, Samara (James) Green, Jonathan (Autumn) Wolbert, John Francis, and Elizabeth (Everett) Willson; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gary Wunderlich; and nephew, Justin Wunderlich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Donna Wunderlich.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.
The memorial service for Mr. Wolbert will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Fr. Jake Greiner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the SCC Booster Club and Community Foundation.
